A Notice of a Public Meeting from the Rector and the Churchwarden of Hillington
I am writing to invite you to a public meeting to discuss the future of Hillington parish church on Friday 22nd November at 6.00 pm in Hillington church.
We are facing some considerable challenges in maintaining the building and finding the resources to cover its ongoing ministry and running costs. For example, you may have noticed that parts of the church are now cordoned off with orange fencing. This has been done on the recommendation of our architect who is concerned about the risk of falling masonry.
Although there is a difference between the ‘church’ as the people and the ‘church’ as a building, sometimes it’s vital to invest time, financial resources and energy into repairing and maintaining a building which has stood for hundreds of years for future generations.
The Parochial Church Council is considering how best to ensure that the church building meets the needs of its worshippers and supports the village generally. So, some of the questions we will be considering are: Where are we now? What are our options? How can we keep afloat? What should our priorities be? What do you want from your church? How could you support your church?
This meeting will be an opportunity to consider all these questions, and more, as we consider the future shape of the Church’s presence in Hillington. We really do need your help as we can’t do it alone.
So, please come to Hillington Church on Friday, 22nd November at 6 pm. There will be light refreshments, with drinks kindly provided by The Hillington Ladies Group. If you are unable to attend, perhaps you would like to write to me at The Rectory Sandringham, and make your thoughts and feelings known.
